Origin of Roulette

A roulette wheel has 36 numbers and a 0 (or 00 on some American tables). A croupier spins a ball in one direction around the table and a fixed circular track. Players place bets on spaces on the table.

Beginners learning how to play roullete should opt for outside bets to improve their chances of winning. These bet types offer higher payouts and are low risk.

Origin

The exact origin of roulette is unknown. However, there are a few theories that may help explain how the game came to be. One theory suggests that it was a result of a combination of other similar games. Other games that are often thought of as precursors to roulette include portique, hoca, bassette, and roly poly. These games are similar to roulette in that they all feature a wheel with numbered slots on it and they also allow players to place bets on different numbers or colors.

It was not until a century later that the game began to take shape as we know it. It first became popular with the French aristocracy in the late 18th century. It was at this point that the game started to spread throughout Europe and eventually found its way to America.
